Once upon a chilly Sunday, while I drove in my friend’s Hyundai,
To a curious and quaint city on the Chesapeake’s shore,
While I nodded, as I was rapping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my Hyundai’s door,
Tis some vagrant, who muttered, tapping at my Hyundai’s door,
Only this, and nothing more.
Ah, distinctly I recall, I had come to watch football,
And on every building and post my purple was adorn,
Eagerly I wished the morrow;- for the Ravens’ return from Foxboro
Where they will cause such sorrow - sorrow for Patriot dynasty of yore
Nameless here forever more.
And the silken sad bemoaning that shall come to pass after the owning
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic tremors never felt before
So that now, to the still beating of my heart, I stood repeating
To Indy! To Indy! To find glory and more!
To take Lombardi and clutch it to bosom’s core
This is it, and nothing more.
Presently my soul grew stronger, hesitating then no longer
Tom, said I, truly your forgiveness I implore
But the fact is you were napping, after Suggs did make a sacking
And the refs were scarcely sure they heard you, as you did implore
“I tucked it! And nothing more!”
Deep into that TV peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no Browns fan ever dared to dream before
But the defense was unbroken, and O-line, it had woken
And the only word there spoken was the shouted phrase “we scored!”
This I shouted, and an echo around the bar shouted “we scored!”
Merely this and nothing more.
Out into the streets I wandered, knowing the Patriots, they had squandered
Their chance to ride to Indy and achieve the glory they had before.
“Surely”, said I, now that we have won this contest, and as we travel to the Midwest,
They will learn to fear the birds’ nest, and the Lombardi will be at our door.
Will the Patriot dynasty endure?
Quoth the Ravens, nevermore.
