Full Time Student Teaching Day 4
My mentor teacher had an emergency during homeroom and had to leave, and was gone until several minutes before school ended. So that was interesting/scary! It turned out fine and I feel a lot better about the prospect of one day teaching by myself. Also I didn’t have to teach 4/5A today which was a relief because IDK what to do with that class. Tomorrow I am going to switch around a lot...

Full Time Student Teaching Day 2
I wore a tie today.
Also a teacher retired today which was really emotional. Not for me but for the other teachers, so that was interesting to watch. People who spent years working together and struggling with the same issues related to teaching.
Some drama between the two 8th grade teams. Mr. Manguy on our team reminded me during recess that I need to stay focused on my...
vivid memory
Freshman year. Listening to Sugar Magnolia (via Grateful Dead) on iPod. Sitting on the PG hill. It is spring, the first really nice day of Spring. A perfect temperature (70 degrees?). I am eating sesame chicken from a togo box from the Great Room. One of the most delicious meals I have had. A pure sort of happiness, devoid of anyone else.

Full Time Student Teaching Day 1
Went well! I got observed during my last period. The students really liked the lesson that I created, comparing the Lowell Mills of the early 1800s to the Foxconn factories in China, and it sparked some interesting debate. Some highlights:
Student asking when the Second Civil War was (she confused it with the second World War)
Tater tots for lunch
A student who is pretty smart but also a...

Big Day Tomorrow!
So, tomorrow I take over the classroom, in charge of planning and teaching everything for the whole month. Independent! Mostly excited, slightly nervous.
My lesson for tomorrow should be really cool/relevant. The students are going to read a primary source on the Lowell Mills (19th century textile factories, shitty working conditions) from the viewpoint of one of the ‘Lowell Girls’...
Well Hello My Sexually Active Friends!
stmaryscondomfairy:
Eric O’Shea just finished! He was funny right? You know what isn’t funny? Unplanned pregnancy! So when the moment comes remember to call on your friendly neighborhood condom fairy!
So, I was in a PG bathroom and stumbled upon this blog. Really interesting. I think it’s a bit odd, via college students should probably just grab a bunch of condoms, but I dig the...

we talked about Roman civ and gladiators and it made me remember that time we watched Gladiator to a dubstep soundtrack at High Tide. man oh man do I miss St. Mary’s sometimes.
Oh my god, yes. And then I tried to explain the whole story of Gladiator and Marcus Aurelius and Caesar and people were paying attention to me instead of the movie for some reason/believing my fake...

blargh!: differentiation using ipads →
donnaignoble:
Yesterday we had an all day iPad inservice because, pending board approval, we’re going to have a 1:1 initiative with iPads beginning next year. A small cohort has been testing them, 25 students and 5 teachers. Those teachers taught us the techniques that they’ve been using.
The thing that stuck…
